Guru in Coma after Cardiac Arrest [from HipHopDX]

One of Hip Hop's most influential emcees is presently in critical condition, several sources say. Guru, one half of pioneering '80s, '90s and '00s Brooklyn-based Hip Hop group Gang Starr suffered a heart attack this weekend, according to the emcee and producer's sister Tricia.

HipHopWired.com says that the emcee, born Keith Elam is presently in a coma from complications of going into cardiac arrest. Guru is best known for penning hits such as "Words I Manifest," "Discipline" and "Just To Get A Rep." Between 1986 and 2004, Guru (an acronym Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal) founded Gang Starr, a duo with DJ Premier that also includes Gang Starr Foundation affiliates Big Shug, Group Home, Jeru Da Damaja and Smiley Da Ghetto Child.

Born and raised in the Boston area, Guru relocated to Brooklyn in the late '80s, where Gang Starr released its first singles with 45 King as producer. By 1988, the group evolved as a duo with Premier, and released their 1989 full-length debut No More Mr. Nice Guy

Bun B moves from Asylum to Universal

Friday, XXLMag.com reported that Port Arthur, Texas veteran emcee and one-half of UGK Bun B was leaving Warner/Asylum Records to head to Universal for his forthcoming Trill O.G. album. "I work better in the small system. When you’re in the big system it’s really about breaking you and exposing you and I think I’ve been able to build a career as far as just associating myself," Bun told XXLMag.comYesterday evening, HipHopDX contacted reps at Warner/Asylum Records to see if Rap-A-Lot Records had moved their entire distribution to Universal/Fontana, or was it Bun. Although the reps were unable to confirm at present, they did state that Bun B will remain with Rap-A-Lot Records despite the move. Rap-A-Lot Records is planning 25th Anniversary re-releases of classic albums and songs, producer Mike Dean recently revealed to DX. Previously, the label has been distributed by Virgin, Priority Records and Warner Brothers. If J Prince's label is indeed headed to Fontana, it will be their first vent

Lupe Fiasco talks business

In an interview with theage.com.au, Lupe Fiasco recently spoke about the difficulties he has with his label.''The most difficult part of the music business is the label," says Lupe. "What I want to do and what they want me to do - creatively - is in conflict. It doesn't keep me up at night. I look at it as a challenge. It's not meant to be easy.''Despite a measure of success with hits like "Superstar," Lupe says his label doesn't have an accurate idea of what his fans want. ''There's a misunderstanding with my fanbase. People [at Warner] feel they know my fans more than I do. They want me to step out of my comfort zone and step into theirs. I don't have necessarily the celebrity success they want me to have but it's more social success and being able to speak at a college about world affairs. That's a success, to me."On 2007's Lupe Fiasco's The Cool, the rapper detailed others' expectations about his music on the track, "Dumb It Down." But while this issue isn't new to Lupe, he remains
